“Madras Thorn is a drought resistant tree!
It is an evergreen tree that can grow to around 15 meters or 50 feet high.
Its pods are set in a spiral of 1 to 3 whorls and strangled between the seeds that look like Jalebi, an Indian sweet. The pods are made into a sweet drink and eaten fresh or roasted. Its flowers attract bees and produce good quality honey.
The root and bark decoctions is used to treat diarrhoea in traditional medicine. It is called sweet tamarind, monkeypod and blackbead in Engish. It is locally known in India as jungle jalebi in Hindi, vilayatichinch in Marathi and kodukkappuli in Tamil. ”
