Republic Day is a time to celebrate the rich cultural heritage of our nation and the progress we have made as Indians. While we celebrate togetherness and democracy, we as citizens of India, have certain duties that we are obligated to uphold. Article 51-A (g), of the Indian Constitution, states that,
“It shall be the duty of every citizen of India to protect and improve the natural environment including forests, lakes, rivers and wildlife and to have compassion for living creatures.”
Let us take this as an opportunity to reflect upon how much are we doing for our Nature and wildlife.
Here are 4 ways to make this Republic Day meaningful:
- Plant a tree in honour of the day. It is an act of appreciation for nature and an effort to make our India greener.
- Celebrate the diversity and richness of Indian culture by organising an event in your own society or community. This would be a great way to bring people together. Conduct talent shows or game nights and gift them an eTreeCertifcate™ to the winners.
- Encourage friends and family to reduce, reuse and recycle waste to help the environment.
- Organise a clean-up drive in your community to remove litter and promote cleanliness.
This Republic Day let us celebrate our nation’s heritage and make a positive impact on our society. Let us use this day to reaffirm our commitment to building a better future for all.
