“Japanese Spindle tree is native to East Asia.
It can grow to over 25 feet in height. The fruit is a pink or red coloured berry that splits open to reveal the fleshy-coated orange seeds. In traditional medicine, the stem and bark is used an anti-rheumatic, diuretic and tonic. Most parts of this tree are harmful to humans.
It is a popular tree planted for ornamental purposes in gardens for its decorative berries. Some varieties have been awarded the Royal Horticultural Society’s Award of Garden Merit.
