“Vine Maple is native to North America.
It can reach a height of 26 feet and rarely reach 60 feet. It is considered to be one of the best native trees and an important part of the Northwest forest in North America. It is enjoyed for its rugged growth habit, interesting bark color and beautiful fall leaf color.
Its leaves have 7 to 9 lobes and are almost circular. During autumn, the aging leaves turn a beautiful red and gold until they fall. Flowers are small, red or purple in colour and the pods are spread out like other maples in a ‘V’ shape arrangement.
The foliage is borne on twisted, spreading limbs and hence the term “”Vine””. It can bend over easily and sometimes this can cause the top of the tree to grow into the ground and send out a new root system, creating a natural arch.
