Indian Barberry

“Indian Barberry can grow up to 10 feet in height.

The yellow flowers bloom from March to April. The fruits are edible berries, red in color and ripen from May till June. Its bark is yellow to brown from the outside and covered with three-branched thorns which are modified leaves.

It is also called “”Tree Turmeric”” and is popular in Ayurvedic medicine. In traditional medicine, it is claimed to possess antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, antipyretic and antiseptic properties. Parts of the plant have been used for dyeing clothes and for tanning leather.”
