Kahikatea

“Kahikatea is New Zealand’s Tallest Forest Tree!

It can reach a height of 180 feet or 55 meters with a trunk exceeding 1 meter or 3 feet in diameter. Also called dinosaur tree for its existence alongside dinosaurs during the Jurassic period. It supports a whole ecosystem on its trunk and branches and scientists once found 28 different plants living on one tree.

The Maori, native people of New Zealand used a decoction of the leaves to treat urinary problems, the wood to make weapons and the gum for chewing gum.”
